With hundreds of all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean, it’s no wonder newlywed couples flock to these types of hassle-free properties for their first vacation as husband and wife. After all, what better way to relax after the wedding than with a little sand, surf and (included) sangria! Here are a few reasons why all-inclusive resorts make fabulous honeymoon destinations.
All-inclusive resorts roll out the red carpet for honeymooners. Many resorts have a special honeymoon package that might include chocolate and champagne in the room at check-in, an included romantic dinner or included off-property excursion. Some properties even give you a week-long honeymoon for free if your hold your destination wedding at the resort. Large properties that cater to a lot of weddings and honeymoons have weekly mixers, where all the newlywed couples can meet. If the property you book does not have a specific honeymoon package, at the least tell the hotel at booking that you are newly married, and ask for a room upgrade or other special perk. (Hey, it never hurts to ask!)
You know exactly how much you need to save for your honeymoon. Rates at all-inclusive resorts include not only your hotel room, but also three meals daily, plus on-site entertainment and activities. Package prices quoted spell out precisely what’s included in your vacation so you can save accordingly for your much-anticipated trip. Or, better yet, let your wedding guests know how they can contribute to your “travel fund” in lieu of a toaster wedding gift.
All-inclusive resorts are romantic. All-inclusives in Mexico and the Caribbean are often oceanfront, which equals long walks on the beach and frolicking in waves together. Some resorts offer special, candle-lit meals-for-two on the beach, while others have in-room Jacuzzis built for two. If you really want to amp up the romance, consider a resort where no children are allowed. (There’s just something about crying kids poolside that puts the kibosh on romance.) Most all-inclusive properties have fabulous full-service spas where you and your sweetie can book couples’ massages – or, even better, enjoy one in an open-air, oceanfront palapa.
All-inclusive resorts are fun. It’s easy to meet like-minded travelers at an all-inclusive resort. After all, you’ll run into the same couples at the buffet, around the swim-up bar and at the disco. Sure, you can always maintain your privacy, and stick to yourselves while you’re at your all-inclusive resort (by all means, it’s your honeymoon; do what whatever you want!). But if you are the gregarious type and want to hang out with other couples by the pool, you’ll surely have plenty of opportunities to get to know other vacationers who have fun like you do.
You don’t have to think too much on an all-inclusive vacation. The hardest decision you’ll make at an all-inclusive resort is, “Shall I sit by the pool or on the beach this afternoon?” Or, perhaps, “Should we book the Brazilian restaurant or the French bistro for our final night here?” Unlike an urban honeymoon – or a honeymoon where you’ve had to make all of the hotel, sightseeing, dining and activity arrangements yourself – on an all-inclusive honeymoon, booking the actual resort was likely the hardest step. You don’t have to wade through dozens of options at a tropical all-inclusive resort. You just show up, and let the staff take care of you.
After you experienced months of planning stress leading up to your wedding, it’s likely all you want is a week of relaxed bliss. At all all-inclusive resort, it’s easy to kick back in a chaise lounge, feel the salty ocean breeze and gaze at palm trees, while someone else waits on you hand and foot. What a fabulous way to enjoy a vacation with your new spouse before returning home to start your new life together as husband and wife.
